On May 14, 2021, the Sino-Russian Mathematics Center Class A Base (Jilin University) Development and Construction Symposium was successfully held in the Dongrong Conference Center of Jilin University. Zhang Jiping, director of the Sino-Russian Center for Mathematics, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Liberal Professor of Peking University, and Zheng Weitao, executive vice president of Jilin University, attended the forum and delivered speeches. The meeting was chaired by Professor Zhang Ran, Secretary of the Party Committee and Dean of the School of Mathematics of Jilin University.
In his speech, Zheng Weitao reviewed the foundation of in-depth cooperation between Jilin University and Peking University over the years, and expressed his sincere support for the long-term support of mathematicians represented by Academician Zhang Jiping, especially for the help of Jilin University in the selection of the A base of the Russian Mathematics Center. Jilin University will go all out to support the construction of the base, strive to improve the level of talent training, scientific research and international cooperation, train a group of young mathematicians, and promote the school to build a world-class mathematics subject. Relying on the Sino-Russian Mathematics Center, we will realize international scientific research cooperation and contribute to the building of a technological power.
Academician Zhang Jiping introduced the construction background and progress of the Sino-Russian Mathematics Center, affirmed the progress made in the mathematics discipline of Jilin University in recent years, and shared the construction plan of the Sino-Russian Mathematics Center, with special emphasis on the center’s construction goals: First, it has achieved major theories. Significant scientific research results, secondly, can serve the national strategic needs, and thirdly, they must be built into a number of unique mathematics schools. Academician Zhang Jiping has a long-term vision and pointed out the future development direction of the base.
Participants had in-depth exchanges on the construction advantages, development planning and policy guarantee of the China-Russia Mathematical Center Class A Base (Jilin University). Relying on the resource and geographical advantages of Jilin University’s cooperation with famous Russian universities over the years, especially the characteristic advantages of mathematics, the Sino-Russian Mathematics Center Class A Base (Jilin University) will focus more on basic theoretical research and innovative practice, and extensively recruit outstanding talents, promote organized scientific research, and strive to make better results in original innovation research and the construction of talent echelon.

The Sino-Russian Mathematics Center was established on June 29, 2020. It is led by Peking University and Moscow University. It relies on the "Double First Class" construction alliance in mathematics, and cooperates with relevant domestic units such as the University of Science and Technology of China and Russian universities and research institutes such as St Petersburg University in construction. The center aims to lead the development of mainstream mathematics research, cultivate outstanding talents, improve scientific and technological innovation capabilities, and promote cooperation and exchanges among mathematicians worldwide.
